In this afternoon session, participants will be guided through the creative process behind game design, followed by hands-on playtesting and practical activities.

A panel of designers will introduce the audience to some theoretical foundations accessible to anyone. Afterwards, the participants will be able to playtest some new games under development, give their feedback and train their critical thinking skills.

Alexander Zacherl is a board game designer from London, UK. After 10 years designing video games and a 5-year detour into machine learning, he is currently working on multiple abstract strategy games to be released next year.

Matteo Menapace designs cooperative games and facilitates playful workshops for people to explore real-world challenges. He lectures in game design and was a game designer in residence at the V&A Museum in London. Matteo co-designed Daybreak, a cooperative game about stopping climate breakdown, which was awarded the Kennerspiel des Jahres in 2024.
