Young Chelsea Bridge Club
Dating back to the 1960s, the Young Chelsea Bridge Club is one of London’s longest-standing bridge clubs. Known for its strong competitive tradition, it has hosted national and international-level events and remains a core part of London’s bridge scene. It provides lessons for all levels, mentoring programs and several more activities for beginners and advanced players.
Hammersmith Chess Club
The Hammersmith Chess Club has operated since 1962 and has grown into one of London’s most active chess clubs with over 200 active players. It competes in multiple leagues in Central and West London, hosts regular Club Nights, and runs structured training programs.
London Go Centre
Established in the 1970s and relaunched in 2018 thanks to the estate of T Mark Hall and the Nippo Club UK, the London Go Centre is one of the UK’s main venues dedicated to the game of Go. It is part of the British Go Association, it hosts major tournaments such as the London Open and provides a regular space for study and play at the London Mind Sports Centre.

ChessPlus
ChessPlus is a London-based company that works to bring chess and other strategy games, most of which are played on chessboards, into schools. The organisation runs clubs for students and offers training courses for teachers interested in using board games as educational tools in the classroom.
Gen42 Games
Gen42 is a British board game publisher founded by designer John Yianni in the early 2000s. The company is best known for Hive, a boardless strategy game designed 25 years ago, which has since received multiple international game awards and is recognised as a modern abstract classic.
playstrategy.org
Launched in the 2020s during the disruption of in-person events such as the Mind Sports Olympiad, playstrategy.org is a free, open-source platform for playing and learning abstract strategy games online. It supports both traditional games (Go, Chess, Oware) and modern titles (Amazons, Abalone, Lines of Action), and aims to provide accessible tools for educators and game communities worldwide.
Demonstrators: James Heppell, software engineer working for playstrategy.org, and two two-time Pentamind Champion at the Mind Sports Olympiad; Matt Tucker, one of the developers of playstrategy.org, expert in imperfect information games and 2023 Carcassonne World Champion; Etan Ilfeld, a US National Chess Master and chief organiser of the Mind Sports Olympiad in London since 2012.
The Oware Society
Established in the early 1990s, the Oware Society promotes the traditional African game of Oware, part of the broader Mancala family of games. The group runs educational workshops, school programmes, and cultural events across the UK and internationally, focusing on both gameplay and heritage.
Demonstrators: Seth Bonti-Asamoah is the founding member and president of the Oware Society.
British Othello Federation
Founded in 1976, the British Othello Federation has organised national championships and represented the UK in World Othello Championships for nearly five decades. It maintains the UK rating system and supports an active player base.
Demonstrators: Guy Plowman is a three-time British Champion of Othello and currently president of the World Othello Federation.
London Shogi Club
Founded in the 1990s, the London Shogi Club serves players of Japanese Chess through regular meetups, lessons, and tournaments. It has hosted national championships and maintains close links with the Japan Shogi Association and other international federations.
Kingston Chess Club
Founded in 1875, Kingston Chess Club is among the oldest chess clubs in the UK. It has a strong tradition of league and county play in Surrey and London, and in recent years has documented its long history through published research and community engagement.
